What is Cannabidiol (CBD)?
CBD is a naturally occurring compound (or phytocannabinoid) found in the leaves, stalks and resinous flower of industrial hemp or marijuana cannabis. It is just one of over a hundred different cannabinoids found in the hemp plant. There is CBD both in the hemp and marijuana plants. However, Mendi only uses hemp-derived CBD in our recovery tools.
Will I get high from CBD?
No. You will not get mentally intoxicated from CBD. It is one of many naturally occurring compounds found in the cannabis plant and will not get you “high”. Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) is another naturally occurring compound found in the cannabis plant and is the cannabinoid responsible for the psychoactive “high” that cannabis is famous for.
What exactly is a cannabinoid?
Cannabinoids are typically molecular compounds naturally made from hemp plants - or phytocannabinoids - meaning cannabinoids made by a plant. They are also found in other plants and are produced by our bodies commonly known as endocannabinoids - meaning cannabinoids made by our body. Science classifies cannabinoids as fatty compounds that play vital roles within our immune and central nervous system. If you want to learn more about how CBD interacts in our body, check out our Athlete Recovery Profiles here.
How does CBD affect my body?
CBD affects the body by triggering certain receptors (CB1 and CB2) of the Endocannabinoid System within your brain and nervous system. Again, learn more about CBD on our Athlete Recovery Profile page here.
What is the Endocannabinoid System (ECS) and how does it work?
The Endocannabinoid System (ECS) is a biological system responsible for regulating and balancing many processes in the body, including immune response, cellular communication, appetite, metabolism, healthy neurological pathways, and more. The ECS plays a large role in maintaining homeostasis. It is known that mood, appetite, memory, sleep and pain sensation are wired to keep the body in balance, and the ECS directly affects these processes. Despite the vital role the ECS plays in the human body, it was discovered relatively recently (less than 30 yrs ago) and we are still scratching the surface of understanding it’s full capacity.
The endogenous cannabinoid system is perhaps the most important physiologic system involved in maintaining human health. The ECS is composed of endocannabinoids, which are endogenous lipid-based retrograde neurotransmitters that bind to cannabinoid receptors and cannabinoid receptor proteins found throughout the central and peripheral nervous system (brain, organs, connective tissues, glands, and immune cells). In each system the ECS performs various tasks, but the goal always is to keep homeostasis.
What questions should I be asking before purchasing CBD products?
We recommend you research:
Where is the hemp sourced from?
What other ingredients are in the product?
What is the quality of the ingredients (hemp and other) in the product?
Is the company ethical, socially conscious and operate with transparency?
What are some of the positive benefits CBD can have?
CBD positively affects three main areas: pain relief, inflammation and neuro balance. Neuro balance includes stress and anxiousness. When these three areas are positively affected in the human body, inevitably they are going to experience better sleep. The common benefit people notice with CBD is better sleep, because if you have less pain, stress, anxiousness and reduced inflammation you’re likely in a more calm state, and less likely to have disrupted sleep.
LEGALITY & TYPES
Is CBD legal?
The 2018 Farm Bill removed hemp, and its derivatives like CBD, from the Controlled Substances Act, paving the way for the wholly legal cultivation, possession, sale and distribution of the hemp plant. The 2018 Farm Bill allows each state to decide whether it wants to okay the sale of CBD products from hemp within its borders.
What is the difference between hemp and marijuana?
Hemp and marijuana essentially come from the same plant family, Cannabis Sativa. The key difference between the two is their level of THC. Marijuana contains THC and is well-known for producing a “high” when consumed, while industrial hemp has very minimal THC, producing no euphoric effects.
What is CBD isolate?
Isolate is CBD in its purest form. It’s refined to strip out any additional cannabinoids, terpenes or plant components and the final product is a fine powder that has no taste or odor. We use this form of CBD in our Pro Line of products to guarantee no one will test positive for THC.
What are terpenes?
Terpenes are organic compounds in plants responsible for the smell and taste of cannabis.
What's the right dosage for a beginner?
The Mendi mantra is to go 'low & slow'. Start out at our base line ingestible dosage of 25mg, and work your way up from there. Some studies suggest that the benefit of CBD increases up to the point of taking 1mg of CBD per lb of body weight, daily. Talk to your doctor or health professional to determine an amount right for you. Here are some helpful tips:
Effective doses can range from 1mg to 100mg.
Begin with a small dose of high CBD/low THC oil, especially if you have little or no experience with cannabis.
Take a few small doses over the course of the day rather than one big dose.
Use the same dose and ratio for several days.
Don’t overdo it. If necessary, adjust dose slightly.
Cannabis compounds have biphasic properties, which means that low and high doses of the same substance can produce opposite effects.
Small doses tend to stimulate; large doses sedate.
How do I find the right product mix for me?
Humans are all wired differently, as well as our individual endocannabinoid systems. The way CBD interacts with this system differs between users. As a result, Mendi (or CBD) shouldn’t be thought of as a one-size-fits-all solution. In addition, we all carry our own personal preferences for how we train, dose, and desire to take care of our bodies. We highly encourage you to experiment with our products to find the best mix for you. Take notes and pay attention to the affects over time (6 mo to a year). We do see patterns emerging with certain products and specific customer types, so we’ve made an effort to share them candidly with you. To discover how our athletes use Mendi products, click here.
Can I take CBD with additional medications?
Please check with your doctor.
What’s the proper way to store Mendi CBD products?
We suggest storing your products in a dry, cool area with no direct exposure to constant light or excessive heat.
Is there an expiration date for CBD products?
Check each of the product pages for shelf life dates.
I’m a pro athlete who gets drug tested. Will CBD show up on a test?
Our Mendi Base Line products have no traces of THC, the banned component of cannabis that most tests look for. In 2018, WADA removed CBD from the list of prohibited substances, but it’s your responsibility to be sure that CBD is allowed in your league and testing agency.
Are Mendi products third party tested and THC free?
All of our products are third-party tested and our Base Line has zero traces of THC.

TRAVELING WITH CBD
Will CBD pass security at domestic airports?
The TSA recently updated its policy on travelers carrying CBD in carry on and checked luggage (see article here).
What about traveling internationally with CBD?
CBD is not yet legal in all countries. Some countries exist in a gray area but in some countries CBD products are illegal and could cause you big problems. International flights are subject to a different level of security checks and law enforcement by customs agents.
How long will it take to get my Mendi package in the mail?
Expect 2-3 days to fulfill, plus 3-5 days to ship. Our distribution partner only ships USPS First Class, not priority or express. For the latest USPS updates regarding any delays due COVID-19 or holidays, please visit their alerts.
