Go Solo Interview with Mendi CEO Rachael Rapinoe

I was recently interviewed by an editorial publishing company, Go Solo, to talk about my entrepreneurial journey with Mendi these past two years. They run new interviews every week to feature Oregon small business owners across all different industries to highlight their incredible work, passion and the highs and lows of owning a small business. They wanted to do an editorial health, wellness and fitness piece on a local business owner and asked if I would share my experience building Mendi with their community of solopreneurs and small business owners.

The written interview is here but you can also check out other GoSolo series at their main hub. They offer a skills academy for those searching for education in specific areas of business development and they have a podcast for those long car rides, walks or spring cleaning days. Lastly, check out their city guide for all the good food, drink and nightlife spots for some of the most incredible cities across the country.

The entrepreneurial journey is not for the faint hearted, however it is truly one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. When I first embarked on start up life, it sounded so sexy and promising that one day I would make it big and become a fast flying millionaire. I have now learned how far from the truth that reality is. Start up life is hard, it’s gritty, it’s all-consuming and most of the time you’re doing all the little ‘unsexy’ things that are required to keep the business running. Very few make it to the top, and the odds are really stacked against you if you’re in a marginalized group (women, LGBTQ+ and BIPOC). Thus far, I’ve learned that it’s all about the journey. I’ve learned not to fixate on the end point but to stay focused on the present and enjoy the journey while you’re on it.

If anyone reading this article is interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect or how to start, I hope you find my interview with Go Solo helpful. Or at the very least, I hope you find some inspiration to know that you can truly do anything you put your mind to. With a lot of hard work, support, grit and determination you might just be one step closer to achieving your dream career, at your dream company, that YOU started.

Enjoy,
Rachael Rapinoe
