The benefits of CBD for frontline workers: an effective and safe way to manage pain, stress, and burnout.

Since 2020, being a frontline worker has carried significantly more weight than ever before. Working through what felt like an unending pandemic, a more divided country than ever and a deeply wounded planet created extreme levels of pain, stress and burnout in the workforce. Frontline workers saved our country, period.

There’s been an uptick in people trying CBD to combat stress, anxiety, pain, sleep and many more ailments in the past two years, especially workers under extreme conditions. Survey after survey has shown the top reasons for people turning to plant-based medicines, such as cannabidiol or CBD, to help with pain management, stress (and anxiety) and burnout.

But, what does the actual science say? Does cannabidiol (CBD) actually reduce anxiety, pain and help with emotional burnout?Reviews from 2015 and 2020, show evidence of CBD being a promising medicinal approach to these three symptoms.

CBD for Pain Management

CBD and the 113+ phytocannabinoids (cannabinoids from plant compounds) found in the hemp plant work within our existing Endocannabinoid System (ECS) to positively support a natural cell signaling system that regulates pain and many other functions. The ECS is meant to keep our bodies at homeostasis, or balance. Thus, when CBD and other cannabinoids are feeding this system it helps to regulate functions like reducing stress, anxiety, pain, inflammation and promote better sleep.

Specifically regarding pain management, CBD supports the ECS by interacting with the enzyme, FAAH, that breaks down anandamide. Anandamide is a natural endocannabinoid (cannabinoids produced internally in the body) that helps with pain relief, by blocking the pain receptors from signaling to our brains. These interactions create an anti-inflammatory response in our bodies, which result in reduced pain. CBD oil is also known to help people suffering from chronic pain and joint discomfort.

We recommend frontline workers and people in high stress and physically demanding jobs to supplement with CBD-based products to provide a natural approach to managing everyday pain and inflammation, and therefore increasing their overall quality of life on the job.

CBD for Stress Management

Serotonin is a neurotransmitter found in our brain that plays a critical role in mental health and mood. Low serotonin levels are commonly associated with depression, anxiety or mood imbalances. Not having enough serotonin can exacerbate stress levels that might be caused from external factors, such as work.

Oftentimes, our Endocannabinoid System (ECS) becomes fatigued due to internal and external imbalances. Is it known that CBD binds to a receptor that triggers serotonin release in our brains, resulting in less stress and a more balanced mood. The exact way CBD binds to this receptor is unknown. However, we do know that supplementing with hemp CBD solutions is a great way to naturally combat high stress and anxiety levels that result from being a frontline worker.

CBD for Burnout

Physical, emotional and mental burnout from being a frontline worker is very real and detrimental to the general well-being of so many. Frontline physicians, nurses and therapists working with COVID-19 patients have experienced extreme exhaustion at rates we’ve never seen before. There’s so much work that needs to be done to support the heroic efforts of frontline workers keeping us safe. CBD supplementation is a small part of the equation, but it’s a solution that works.

There are many studies showing decreased emotional exhaustion symptoms after treatments of cannabidiol (CBD), discovered by theBONSAI randomized clinical trial. In 2021, the University of Sao Paulo in Brazil conducted a promising study testing the efficacy and safety of CBD for emotional exhaustion and burnout, showing CBD as a positive medical treatment.

While there are still unanswered questions about CBD treatments for emotional exhaustion and burnout, including optimal dosing and formulations, there’s an overwhelming amount of data and anecdotal evidence supporting the use of CBD for pain relief, stress and anxiety relief and burnout. Our suite ofplant-powered wellness products are specifically formulated to go above and beyond to support these symptoms.
